The West End Festival brings over 200 music, film, art and performance events to the venues and communities that make up the West End of Glasgow. It all started in 1996, after the sad demise of Mayfest, but proves beyond all doubt that the arts are alive and kicking in the city.
The range of events is truly amazing, from blockbuster films to street parties. The full programme is released in May and prospective participants who want to join in can register to do so until the middle of March. One guaranteed highlight is the Opening Parade and Street Party, plus a range of other activities in the area that in previous years have included a farmers' market, Paintings On Railings, a Japanese Matsuri event in the Botanics and more.
In true festival style, punters descend on the streets of the town centre in their droves throughout, with a number of stages of country, jazz, roots, salsa and steel bands.
